Going to court in Mobile County, Alabama? You'll need to know the new rules regarding portable electronic devices.

The Presiding Judge in Mobile County, Alabama, issued a Standing Order effective May 28, 2024, with rules prohibiting possession and use of portable electronic devices (such as cell phones and tablets) in the courtroom and certain areas of the Mobile County Courthouse.
While the courtroom rules allow licensed attorneys to carry their portable electronic devices into the courthouse, taking photographs and making video or audio recordings on the floors listed in the order are strictly prohibited for all. The Presiding Judge may waive this prohibition in limited circumstances.
Lawyers should ensure their clients know this rule and leave their cell phones and other portable electronic devices behind when entering court in Mobile.
