The revised Alabama appellate form ARAP-01 for a notice of appeal or cross-appeal was officially updated on July 22, 2026, and requires a $200 filing fee.
This update is the result of a project undertaken by the Standing Committee on the Alabama Rules of Appellate Procedure and the Administrative Office of Courts to improve the form's clarity and usability. Although the substance of the form remains largely unchanged, the design and formatting have been updated.
The form has been expanded from two pages to three pages and redesigned to make it easier for attorneys, self-represented litigants, clerks, and the appellate courts to use. It provides more space to list all appellants, appellees, and attorneys of record, uses a larger font for improved readability, includes additional case category options to assist with appellate docketing, and expands the Certificate of Service to provide more room to list all parties served and the method of service. A new section has also been added at the end of the form addressing the appellate docket fee and any request to proceed in forma pauperis.
Attorneys are encouraged to begin using the revised form immediately. However, notices of appeal submitted on the previous version of the form remain valid and should continue to be accepted. The revisions are intended to improve the form's usability and efficiency, not to create a new filing requirement.
